Petroglyphs on the slope of the ball game in Tehuacalco

Abstract

Excavation and conservation of this property were carried out and the on the slope of the ball game in Tehuacalco, on the Guerrero State, México. The objective of this article is to present the six petroglyphs. Five of them are located on the West slope [three on the South side and two on the North side] and one on the East slope [on its South side]. We will also show its symbolism with supporting information from documentary sources and archeological data. The methodology of analysis of these symbols considered was: location, engraving technique, dimensions and formal analogies of iconographic character. It is concluded that the petroglyphs are representations of the following elements: (a) water (b) water lily, (c) mask or butterfly, (d) The god Tláloc, (e) sun, turtle or nenumar and (f) a site mockup.
