Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze urban imaginaries and their significance in the social construction of space, based on urban-architectural elements with a symbolic character in the Historic Downtown of Ciudad Juárez. In this sense, the problem raised derives from the need to understand and interpret the social and urban dimensions from a complementarity; processes, phenomena, and elements both internal and external to the Historic Downtown of Ciudad Juárez; referring to the assignment of meanings through symbols, shapes, images, uses and practices that transcend the urban imaginary of the area. For this, a qualitative approach has been implemented that allows compiling and analyzing the stories and perceptions of the participating actors, applying methodological techniques such as in-depth interviews, non-participant observation and a self-authored tool called diffuse limits. Said techniques are focused on the knowledge and analysis of stories and spatial limits from key actors, emphasizing their understanding of the diverse environments and urban-symbolic characteristics of the first square of the city; resulting in practices, dynamics and tangible and intangible characteristics on the social construction of space, as well as limits indicated by the participating actors that together generate a common area, which contains an unofficial urban heritage load but of importance in the plot. of the city indicated by the interviewees
