reviewAbstract
The literary work by Gustavo Giovanonni has become a classic in the literature on urban heritage, the first reason
is because of inventing the term and the second responds to the broadly visionary meaning it gives to urbanarchitectural
conservation.
This
French
version
gives
a plus
to
the
work,
through
the
introduction
by
Francoise
Choay,
first
by
reiterating
the
importance
that
Giovanonni
still
representing
in
the
field
of
heritage
conservation
(which
she has spread
thoroughly) and
in
the
other
hand
by highlighting
and
explaining
the
conceptual
markers
that
the
fundamental
issues
and
concepts
of
this book
more
digestible,
ranging
from
the
characteristics
of
ancient
and modern
cities
to
urban planning
through the
ordering and enhancement
of the
nuclei
internal.
All
this within
the
framework of
everyday
life.
From
this gaze, it is
not
surprising
that
Giovannoni’s
postulates
have
been
taken up
by
practitioners
of the
preservation of
historic cities,
throughout
the
20th
century, when applying
“integrated
conservation”,
particularly in
Europe.
