Conservation of the Agustin Melgar Olympic Velodrome and the olympic heritage of Mexico 68

Abstract

The Agustín Melgar Olympic Velodrome is one of the most significant public heritage spaces in Mexico City, as it hosts the Olympic Games of 1968, however, over the years, together with its poor administration, as well as its processes of underutilization and appropriation by public and private initiatives, have generated various conflicts in relation to its use and destination, such as the one related to its demolition attempt to build the new Blue Stadium, which was opposed by part of the national cycling community and international, as well as neighbors and athletes from the immediate environment (for the impacts that this measure would entail, based on the apparent obsolescence of this scenario)
